Nusa Penida Island Bali

There are some neighboring islands near to Bali. There are 3 most famous ones located around 20 km away from Bali to the south-east known as Nusa Penida Island, Nusa Ceningan Island and Nusa Lembongan Island. Among these three islands, Nusa Penida Island is the largest one, and also well known as the best destination for scuba diving.


To many people, these three Islands might not be recognized as parts of Bali’s district. Somehow, they give a great contribution to the tourism development. As we have known, Nusa Penida Island is the biggest one among the three. While Nusa Lembongan Island is the second larger island and Nusa Ceningan Island is the smallest one. Each of these Islands shares their own unique tourism destination and arts. In Nusa Penida Island, you will find beautiful pure beaches and some conservation places protecting plants, birds, and also turtle. Besides that the local people have a very special dance known as the Golden Egg.
When you are diving in Nusa Penida Island, you will likely to see the large pelagic, such as Manta Ray’s (Manta Birostris) at some locations, such as Mola Mola (Oceanic Sunfish) and Manta Point Dive Site. If you get lucky, you will sometimes see the whale-shark too.
As part of Bali’s district, Nusa Penida Island is under the Klungkung regency. If you want to go to Nusa Penida Island from Bali, you need to go to Padang bay to take a ferryboat crossing from Bali to Nusa Penida Island. The only ferryboat available is called as Roro-Nusa Jaya Abadi. This boat will take you crossing the Badung Strait (located between Bali Island and Nusa Penida Island), and the trip will take around one hour to get to the Toya Pakeh Harbor in Nusa Penida Island. After you have reached the island, you can continue the trip by having a modified pick-up car or known as “omprengan”.
The northern dive sites of Nusa Penida like Crystal Bay, Pura Ped and Toyapakeh are good destinations for Drift Diving. A boat ride with BIDP's speed boat of 45 minutes brings you to the best underwater adventures here in Bali Indonesia.
The divesites around Penida can be challenging. Upwellings from the deep can cause thermoclines and let the temperature drop to 20 degrees celsius. Currents running between the Nusa Islands and Lombok Strait are most of the time southward, but can be influenced in direction and strength by the monsoon seasons.
The three islands, Nusa Penida Island, Lembongan Island and Ceningan Island are situated at the Wallace Line which lies at the middle of Bali Island and Lombok Island. This Wallace Line is a separation line between the eco-zones of Asia and Australasia. To the west of the Wallace Line, Asiatic species and organism live, while to the east of the Wallace Line, Australian species and organism exist for living. According to the scientist, these boundaries have been existing for 50 million years. They are predicted to be the south-western edge of Sunda Earth Crust Shelf which are believed to link some main islands in Indonesia, such as Java, Sumatera, Borneo, Bali to the Southeast Asia’s mainland.

Nusa Penida Island as the part of Bali district under the Klungkung Regency has its own history. The Nusa Penida Island was a place where the Gelgel dynasty from Bali was held in prison at early 18th century under the Majapahit ruler. The Gelgel Dynasty was one of the Balinese Kingdoms which conquered the Lombok Island once.
Badung Strait, during WWII the Badung Strait was the location of "The Of Badung Strait". This event took place on 19 and 20 februar 1942. Allied forces had a confrontation here with the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Kintamani Bali

   
Kintamani is the most favorite tourist destinations in Bali with the active volcano of mount Batur and beautiful lake. Kintamani is surrounded by the captivating nature and there are six ancient villages around cauldron of Batur Lake which is often conceived by Bali Age Village. The local people from these Bali Age villages own the unique cultures, houses and life style. Kintamani Area is consisted of some Villages those are Kedisan Village , Buahan, Abang, Trunyan, Songan, South Batur, Middle Batur, North Batur, Sukawana and Kintamani Village . The total of resident in these area are about 15 thousand who are mostly working as farmer, merchant, or work at industrial tourism.

 Mount Batur is located at Kintamani and it has erupted about 24 times since year 1800 and still active up to now. Since the mount erupting, it has impacted to the local society life around this mount, like removing altar (Temple), improve or repairing the village and re-arrange the tradition. Lake Batur is the biggest lake in Bali and functioning as irrigation source to all farmers around it and it is also for all Bali society generally. Kintamani area has been founded some lodging, hotels and restaurants which are located in Kintamani and Penelokan Village. It is a famous tourist place because Kintamani area owns the beautiful panorama and it is encircled by the cold atmosphere.


Kintamani is a Place to Visit in Bali

Kintamani is beautifully seen at the day time around 10:00 am until 15:00 pm especially having fine weather where entire Kintamani area will be able to be seen clearly. Generally, all tourists who pay a visit to this place will arrive in the day time where they can enjoy the panorama or enjoy the lunch in the local restaurant with lake view. Mostly restaurants at Kintamani generally own very beautiful view where tourist merging into their lunch in this restaurant and meanwhile enjoy the panorama.

Location

Kintamani is located in Kintamani sub district, Bangli Regency and about 50 km from Denpasar Town or about 2 hours by car. All roads are generally in good condition to access to this place. The fog will descend and blanket entire area of Kintamani with cold temperature in particular at late afternoon until the whole of night. The most amazing panorama at Kintamani can be seen in the morning time, when the sunrise emerges on the surface of earth precisely on the mount Batur .

Besakih Temple Bali is a worship place of Hindu religion in Bali and in the temple is not only there is a temple, but many temples. Because there are so many temples in the region, the Pura Besakih in Bali is the largest temple in Indonesia. Pura Besakih Bali is also often referred to by the name Pura Agung Besakih. What there is in the village of Besakih Pura Besakih, District Rendang, Karangasem regency, Bali.

The Kuningan Ceremony

















There are many Annual Celebrations of Bali, which constitute of religious and non-religious events and festivals. One of the most important Bali Events and Festivals that is considered very pious by the people of Bali, is the Kuningan in Bali. The festival of Kuningan in Bali is the end of the 10 day festivities of the Galungan, when the ancestors and Gods are supposed to descend to the family temples and have to be prayed to and deified. One of the most important Bali Events and Festivals in the month of December, the Kuningan in Bali is a private affair. Most festivals in Bali are public in nature and consist of processions and ceremonies that are celebrated with pomp and splendor. However, the Kuningan in Bali is an event that is very subdued and celebrated by people in the shrines of the family temple and and in the houses. Every Balinese goes to his native home for the celebration of the festival of Kuningan in Bali.
The Kuningan in Bali traces its name to the special offerings of Yellow Rice, or 'nasi kuning', which are made by rice colored with turmeric. These are offered to the ancestors and Gods, to appease them and keep them happy. The Kuningan in Bali is a time when the whole family comes together and prays to their ancestors and the Gods to keep them happy and to bless them.
Tumpek Kuningan takes place 10 days after Galungan Day, at the Saturday of Kuningan, the 12th week of the Balinese Pawukon calendar.
Tumpek Kuningan is the day when the Gods and Pitara return to the earth to bestow physical and spiritual prosperity on humanity, and to bless all beings of the universe.
The ceremonial equipment used on Tumpek Kuningan is quite special. Amongst them are: tebog, selanggi, endongan, yellow rice, puppets, tamiang, kolem and others. The ceremonies should be completed before the sun sinks to the west (before noon) because by then the Gods and Pitara will have returned to their respective kahyangan or heavens in the invisible world of niskala.
